Blepharoplasty

blepharoplasty cosmetic surgeryAs you age, your skin starts to stretch and extra fat appears in some parts of the body including under the eyes (eye bags).  Blepharoplasty is the medical procedure in which the surgeon removes that excess tissue and fat from the top or the bottom of the eye lids. Make sure you research other remedies before considering this operation. Blespheropasy should be the last approach.

Why it’s done?

This surgery is usually done when it becomes hard for you to open or close your eyelids due to the excess fat and body tissue that accumulated in the eye area. The operation not only will get rid of that extra tissue but will also make you look younger and more alert. Blepharoplasty may be needed if you have one of the following conditions:

  • Baggy Under-Eyes/Eye Lids
  • Droopy Eye Lids
  • Excess Skin on lower eye lids
  • Excess Skin on upper eye lids

The picture below shows the areas that can be treated by blepharoplasty :

The operation can be done in the same time as other face procedures such as face-lift, brow-lift, etc. The operation costs will most likely not be covered by you insurance policy.

Risks

  • As many other surgeries, Blepharoplasty has its own risks. These risks include:
  • Dry eyes
  • Irritated Eyes
  • Scarring
  • Temporary Numbness in the operated area
  • Temporary vision change

Price and Financing

The price of the procedure varies from place to place and usually is estimated on the average cost of living in that area. Some clinics take part in different financing plans and can help you cover the cost of the surgery. Although, if the surgery is done for cosmetic reasons, the cost will most likely not be covered by your health insurance company. Once you select the surgeon that you want to go with, the clinic usually has a person who will help you with the financing of the operation.
